Top Transfer Ball Valve Completes Midland General Purpose Car Package

By OPW | May 25, 2021

Freight rail is a crucial piece of the North American, and global, economy. Per AAR, freight rail accounts for around 40% of long-distance ton-miles, which is greater than any other mode of transport. General purpose railcars are specifically tasked with carrying millions of our most important chemicals, food products, fuels and more.

Midland is dedicated to developing standard-setting valve and level-measurement device technology, and the new Top Transfer Ball Valve is the next part of this commitment. The final piece in a complete component package for general purpose railcars, this new valve will be key in delivering sales process and service benefits.

Railcar builders, shippers and aftermarket repair shops will now be able to source a full portfolio of valves and devices from Midland for their general purpose car needs. This portfolio includes:

  • Pressure Relief Valves
  • NEW Top Transfer Ball Valves
  • Bottom Outlet Ball Valves
  • Bottom Outlet Plug Valves
  • Vacuum Relief Valves
  • Gaging Devices
  • Rupture Disc Devices

The new Top Transfer Ball Valve is available in 2” and 3” sizes and in a choice of stainless steel or carbon steel. It is compatible with the wide range of commodities that a general purpose railcar may carry. An NPT-threaded body cap end pairs successfully with the Kamlok® or Kamvalok® Connections from OPW Engineered Systems. This valve also features virgin PTFE seals, a flange X-threaded design and a full-bore design for unrestricted flow rates and quicker unloading.

When working in conjunction with the other components in the complete Midland package, Top Transfer Ball Valves can assist in moving valuable materials efficiently while limiting the possibility of hazardous commodity release.

For more than 60 years, Midland has designed and developed railcar systems and components with the safety of people, their communities and the environment front of mind. For more information on Midland Manufacturing and its complete portfolio of rail tank-car products, please visit midlandmfg.com.
