Both February and March of 2023 brought significant ice storms to the northern Metro Detroit suburbs, causing severe power outages that lasted for extended periods of time. Many families lost their stored perishable food stocks.
Brook Matheson and Cameron Lewis, employees at OPW’s Belanger facilities in Novi and Northville, Michigan, decided to coordinate a food drive for Forgotten Harvest, a local Michigan foodbank that provides surplus food to local charities five days a week.
“I knew that some at-risk families would be in need of assistance, and I thought our facilities would be willing to step up and help, and they definitely did!” said Brook Matheson, who works in Shipping at Belanger. “I am very proud and appreciative of what we were able to accomplish.”
Belanger employees collected a pallet of 489 lbs. of food for their neighbors in need.
“I appreciated the opportunity to deliver the food, knowing it will help families in need,” said Cameron Lewis, who works in Production at Belanger.
