Cincinnati, Ohio  — OPW Fueling Components, the global leader in fueling innovation, is proud to announce that its article titled “Fueling The World” was recently awarded Best Editorial Feature of theYear from the Manitoba Magazine Publishers Association. Better known as the “Maggies,” these awards are given out annually to promote the pursuit of excellence among publishing professionals and honor excellence in print and electronic publishing in over 100 editorial, design and promotional and event categories. OPW’s article was put up for consideration for the awards after it was published in the May 2010, issue of Convenience & Carwash Canada magazine, one of the leading publications covering the convenience store, retail petroleum and carwash industry.

The article describes how the world of motorized vehicles has undergone some significant changes that have improved the industry over the years, including the various types of fuels and the pumps used to dispense those fuels. However, the actual business end of the delivery chain, the fuel nozzle, has remained relatively unchanged in that time, especially since a series of technological advancements in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The real breakthrough in fuel-nozzle design and operation came in 1949 when Leonard H. Duerr, an engineer for the OPW Corporation invented a three-ball mechanism. In the 60 years since its invention, Duerr’s three-ball mechanism has remained the basic technology in automatic shut-off nozzles.
