Q: Why can I not use most standard petroleum equipment for DEF?
A: DEF must remain pure through the distribution channel. Many components commonly used for petroleum will contaminate DEF. OPW DEF components are compatible with DEF per ISO 22241.
Q: Why does the OPW DEF nozzle look different then a standard 11A™ nozzle?
A: OPW nozzles look different to help aid the consumer in selecting the right nozzle for the right fill point. A nozzle that looks like a traditional OPW 11A™ nozzle is probably not suitable for use with DEF.
Q: What are the thread connections on OPW DEF hanging hardware?
A: All OPW DEF hanging hardware have 1" BSPP connections. These connections were chosen for two reasons. First, to prevent accidental usage of new & used petroleum products that are not compatible with DEF. Second, to eliminate the need for thread sealing compounds which take a long time to cure properly and may not be compatible with DEF.
Q: Should I use thread seal tape or pipe dope?
A: No, OPW DEF equipment utilizes an elastomeric seal to eliminate the need for such sealing methods making field replacement faster and more reliable.
Q: What should I do if my OPW DEF nozzle is not fully dispensing fluid?
A: First check to see if an OPW MFPD or equivalent magnet is installed in the vehicle DEF fill system. The OPW DEF nozzle will not function fully if it is not installed into an OPW MFPD or equivalent per ISO 22241-1. If the MFPD is present, and the nozzle still does not dispense. Check to see if the venturi is clogged with DEF crystals. Overtime, DEF will crystallize and these crystals may clog the sensing tube. Dip the nozzle tip into clean DEF or de-ionized water, and check to see if it dispenses. If problems still persist contact your local OPW service technician for assistance.
Q: How do I know if my vehicle has an OPW MFPD in the DEF fill system?
A: Check with your vehicle supplier. It can be seen a blue ring installed in the DEF fill system (see image below).
Q: Can I install the MFPD after market if I do not have one?
A: Check with your vehicle supplier. Many fill systems were designed so that the MFPD can be installed after market if it was not installed at the factory, there may be exceptions.
